“Meowr!” You look up from your daily walk in the woods and see a kitten that has climbed a tree and can’t get down. You roll up your sleeves and concentrate on a spell. You speak the letters “F-L-O-A-T” and, suddenly, you are weightless! You easily float up the tree to collect the kitten and return it to the ground.

You are a Spellcaster. You use the power of words to change the world around you. Saving a kitten is one of the smaller challenges you will face.

Spellcasters blends fantastical roleplaying with real-life language skills by turning players into magic users who cast spells by actually spelling and writing words. Players cast spells to shape the world around them to overcome challenges, and in doing so they become better at spelling and writing. If you love storytelling and want to become better at your craft, Spellcasters might be a fun way for you to do it.

Unlike many other roleplaying games, Spellcasters does not use dice to determine what happens as players shape the world. Instead, the story is affected by a player’s accuracy in spelling and writing. A correctly spelled word will cause that spell to happen as expected. A misspelled or difficult-to-read word may cause something wonky to happen. Either way, the story proceeds and so do the opportunities to learn and grow.
